Education

The Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery (CSSS) operates a robust educational program. Each Wednesday evening is dedicated to educational activities, with meetings held in the Spinal Unit seminar room (West Block, D-Floor, Queen's Medical Centre) from 17:30 to 18:30. These sessions typically conclude with a social visit to one of Nottingham’s many pubs. Guests are warmly welcomed.

At CSSS, we are somewhat unique in that the entire department convenes every morning from 08:15 to 09:30 to review all emergency cases as well as those conducted the previous day, chaired by the on call consutlant. On Fridays, this meeting commences earlier, at 07:30, and includes detailed discussions on complex cases. These gatherings have been recognized as a significant strength of our educational fellowship program.

Additionally, we organise regular cadaveric and other educational courses. These range from basic spinal techniques to advanced and master-level courses, which include advanced reconstructive and microsurgical techniques, complemented by case discussions and live surgical demonstrations.
