Sotirios Karatzoglou

I am a senior spine surgery fellow with a strong clinical and academic background, having completed my neurosurgery training at G. Papanikolaou General Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece, and I am certified through the European Board of Neurological Surgery. I completed postgraduate studies in Clinical and Experimental Neurosurgery at the University of Athens. My training included extensive exposure to spine, cranial trauma, tumour and degenerative pathology, and I have published in peer-reviewed journals. My main interests lie in degenerative spinal conditions, minimally invasive spine surgery and outcomes-based research.
I am currently completing my spine surgery fellowship at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), one of Europe’s largest Major Trauma Centres and one of the most prolific spinal units in the region. It has been my honour and privilege to operate alongside leaders in the field of spinal surgery. During my fellowship, I aim to further refine my operative skills in complex spine surgery—particularly in adult degeneration and deformity—while contributing to ongoing research and service development.

I completed my MBBS in medicine in Jordan and then joined the orthopedic residency program as a military doctor, followed by a clinical research fellowship at the AO headquarters in Switzerland. I had never considered becoming a spine surgeon until I visited the QMC Spinal Unit, where I truly experienced what it means to work in spine surgery. The high case load, broad exposure, and mentorship from highly experienced surgeons from diverse backgrounds inspired me and shaped my interest in this field.
I am currently pursuing my EMBA in Health part-time at UCL, and I look forward to integrating advanced technologies into clinical practice to provide the highest standard of care for my patients."
